Apple Eases Region Requirements for Apple Intelligence on iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1

Apple has announced that the latest beta updates for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 no longer require users to set their device region to the United States to access Apple Intelligence features. Now, only the US English language setting is necessary.

Previous Requirements

In previous beta versions, users had to change Siri’s language to US English and also set their device’s region and language to the United States. This meant altering how measurements, temperature, and calendar formats were displayed.

New Updates

According to the latest release notes, the requirement to change the device region has been removed. Users running the third betas of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 only need to ensure that English is set as the preferred language in Settings โž General โž Language & Region and that Siri is set to US English in Settings โž Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Apple Intelligence Availability

With these settings, users outside the US can join the Apple Intelligence waitlist, typically getting accepted within minutes. However, Apple Intelligence remains unavailable in China, and users in the EU must use a US App Store ID.

Apple Intelligence offers various capabilities such as composing text and emails, automating app actions, generating images, and summarizing documents. These features require substantial on-device computing power, so compatibility is essential. iPhone users need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, while only iPads and Macs with M1 or later Apple silicon processors are supported.
