Google Rolls Out New Android Features and Wear OS Update

Google is introducing four new Android features, applicable across various devices, and a bonus feature for Wear OS. Let’s explore these updates in detail.

Enhanced TalkBack

TalkBack, Android’s screen reader, now uses Gemini models on supported devices to provide detailed audio descriptions of images. This is applicable whether you’re viewing your camera roll, pictures in text messages, or images on social media.

Circle to Search

Google’s Circle to Search feature allows users to identify songs playing nearby or on their phones. This feature is now officially available.

Chrome Listening

You can now listen to web pages in Chrome, regardless of their content. Users can select their preferred listening speed, similar to podcasts, and choose the type of voice and language.

Expanded Earthquake Alerts

The Android Earthquake Alerts System is now extended to all US states and six territories. It uses crowd-sourced earthquake detection to provide potentially life-saving warnings seconds before the shaking starts, along with post-shaking safety tips.

Offline Maps for Wear OS

Google Maps on Wear OS now supports offline maps. Your watch can access maps downloaded to your phone. Additionally, two new shortcuts allow you to search for destinations with your voice when connected online or view your location on the map with a tap on your watch face.
