Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition: What to Expect
Samsung has not yet publicly hinted at any plans to release another foldable smartphone before summer 2025. Currently, it appears that the Galaxy Z Fold6 will remain Samsung’s premier smartphone alongside the Galaxy S24 Ultra until the latter’s successor arrives early next year.
Speculations from Renowned Leakers
Despite the lack of official information, well-regarded leakers have been discussing the potential release of a second Galaxy Z Fold this year. Notably, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) and Evan Blass have shared insights on this topic. Blass revealed that the device would be called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, not the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim or Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra. He also hinted that the device would feature a 200 MP primary camera, a detail reiterated by Young.
Production and Market Focus
Young has provided additional details about the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Samsung is expected to start production in September, coinciding with its alleged launch month. The majority of sales are anticipated to occur in China, suggesting that the device aims to compete with Chinese foldable brands like Honor, Oppo, and Xiaomi.
Design and Cost Considerations
The Special Edition is said to lack a digitiser to reduce production costs and overall device thickness. This decision is expected to offset the higher cost of sourcing a larger 8-inch foldable display. However, it will likely prevent the device from supporting S Pen inputs, a point of contention among leakers. Young asserts this limitation, while Ice Universe disagrees.
Advanced Display Technology
Young also mentioned that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition would feature Ultra Flexible Glass (UFG). This advanced display technology is expected to enhance the device’s durability and user experience.
