PS5 Pro Announcement Expected Soon: What We Know So Far

According to insider information published by VGC, the PS5 Pro is expected to be announced in mid-September and will likely hit store shelves sometime during the holiday season. The details come from a reliable Dealabs user known as billbil-kun, who has a strong track record for leaking upcoming games and hardware.

PS5 Pro Name and Packaging

The leaker revealed that the new console will indeed be called the PS5 Pro, a name that was assumed based on the PS4 Pro but hadn’t been confirmed until now. While the leaker claims to have access to the packaging design, they opted not to share copyrighted images. Instead, they provided a sketch of the packaging, which resembles the PS5 Slim with a white colorway and three black stripes across the middle. These stripes might serve as cooling vents, although this is not confirmed.

Design and Features

It remains unclear if the PS5 Pro will come with a disc drive. There is speculation that it may ship without one to keep costs down. It’s also unknown if there will be two versions of the PS5 Pro: one with a disc drive and a digital-only edition. The console is expected to ship with the same standard DualSense controller that comes with the original PS5 and PS5 Slim.

Internal Specifications

Details about the internal specifications are scarce. However, other leaks have hinted at the console’s power. A YouTuber leaked official documentation from Sony in March, suggesting that the PS5 Pro will have the same CPU as the standard PS5 but with a “High CPU Frequency Mode” that boosts the chipset by ten percent to 3.85GHz. The GPU is expected to be powered by 33.5 teraflops, compared to the standard PS5’s 10.28 teraflops. Despite these figures, changes in AMD’s architecture make it difficult to directly compare teraflops between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro. The Verge indicates a 45 percent uptick with rendering.

Upcoming Announcement

With these leaks surfacing, it seems we are mere weeks or even days away from an official announcement from Sony. Gamers worldwide are eagerly awaiting more details, hoping that the PS5 Pro won’t come with an exorbitant price tag.
